PEEP - Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan

The Secret Garden operates a Buddy System Evacuation Procedure.

The primary role of the designated buddy is to assist members of staff under 18 during emergency evacuations, ensuring their safe and efficient exit from the building or movement to a designated safe area.

This information applies to you if you are on shift with a staff member under 18, or if you have been assigned the buddy role during an event night.

Communication:
The buddy will maintain clear and ongoing communication with the individual throughout the evacuation process. They are also responsible for promptly informing fire wardens or other emergency personnel about the individual's status and location to facilitate coordinated assistance if needed.

Evacuation Procedures:
During an evacuation, the buddy will assist the individual by guiding them to the nearest safe exit and then onto the Assembly Point located in the overflow car park.

Buddy's Knowledge:
The buddy must be familiar with the building’s layout, including all emergency exits, evacuation routes, and refuge areas. This information is found in the New Starter and Refresher Training.

Backup Plan:
A backup plan must be in place in case the primary buddy is unavailable or unable to assist. This includes identifying an alternate buddy or ensuring that a designated fire marshal is prepared to step in and provide necessary support.

Training and Practice:
Both the buddy and the individual are required to participate in regular fire drills to practice and reinforce the evacuation procedures. These drills help ensure both parties are comfortable and confident in executing the evacuation plan during an actual emergency.
